How to survive a long haul flight

I’ve (unfortunately) experienced it all. 1.5 hour flights, 6 hour flights, and the dreaded 24 hours on a plane.

Flying across the world and spending an entire day on a plane is not fun. So here are my tips for surviving the haul!

Entertainment- most planes have TVs now, so I will usually find a TV series to watch. I perfer series over movies because you can take a break after an episode or keep watching! Whats beter than no commitment?

My other entertainment necessities include:

  • Adult coloring books

  • a good read - maybe one about my travel destinations! Or just my usual romance novel.

  • Ipod - I usually have some sort of meditation music, or guides to help me relax/sleep.

  • Magazine - like I said, I hate commitment and a magazine requires less than a book ;).

  • A deck of cards- especially if you are traveling with someone! Or play solitaire on your own.

Clothing- You are flying for an absurd amount of hours... no one cares if you look good. Dress COMFORTABLE! If you are going to be traveling longer than you are usually awake, bring a change of clothes. I usually pack shorts, leggings, tank top and a sweater because you never know how the temperature will be on the plane. Of course extra undies and socks for ultimate comfort.

Toiletries- My major daily necessities must be packed! For me this includes

  • Contact lense case, solution, and glasses!

  • Facial cleansing wipes

  • Moistrurizer

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste (this gets tricky because you want to try and use bottled (or clean) water).

SNACKS- On some international flights meals will be provided (and sometimes wine!!). Keep in mind you may not even like them! I always pack a sandwich or two. If I feel like I need more I will pick up a bagel or muffin in the airport. I also always purchase a drink before boarding my plane because I am usually thirsty before the free drinks come around.

In addition to my sandwiches I usually pack simple snacks. Granola bars, crackers, fruit.

I recommend taking gum; it works great if your ears pop during take off/landing. And of course the tylenol because, ya never know.

Movement- Get up as much as possible. If you are going to the restroom, take a little walk. I also am always trying to stretch my legs out near the restrooms. Try to move when you can to avoid cramps, and swollen legs 😫. (Stay hydrated)

The more you prepare, the more enjoyable your flight will be! Enjoy yourself on your way to beautiful destinations ✈️
