I recently traveled to the beautiful country of Costa Rica. My travels took me from the Arenal volcano to the Caribbean beach area and then to San jose.
The Arenal volcano is beautiful. This area was about a 4 hour drive from the San Jose airport. Unfortunately our flight was very delayed and we had to take the drive up these dark windy mountain roads at night. NOT recommended so avoid driving at night if possible! My hotel, Los Lagos, was located close to the town of La Fortuna. The hotel was absolutely beautiful. They had more pools than I could count and the best part is that the pools were filled with natural hot spring water!
This part of the country was so green. We took multiple hikes and tours to learn about the different trees and wildlife that make Costa Rica so exciting.
I also took a tour to learn how to make chocolate! Make sure you eat a ton of chocolate and coffee in Costa Rica it is so decadent.
The Caribbean side of the island was very different! I was visiting Puerto Viejo, Limon. It was about a 5 hour drive to get here from the Arenal area, so plan your travel ahead.

The hotel we stayed in was not so nice, I am not providing a link because I would not recommend it. The town was nice and very beachy. The beaches were also beautiful! We went white water rafting in the Paquare River. This river is absolutely breathtaking! The rafting was very fun and exciting, I 100% recommend trying this out if you are a thrill seeker.
We also visited the Jaguar Rescue Center.

While there were no Jaguars at this time... all of the animals are RESCUED and are released to the wild IF they are capable of SURVIVING. The sloths and baby howler monkeys were my favorite!
The food in Costa Rica was delicious! I did get slightly sick of rice and beans for 3 meals a day, but ate it anyway :). I seriously could not drink enough coffee, it was so yummy and I purchased a lot to bring back home with me!
BE CAREFUL of the water! I did get sick towards the end of the trip from accidentally drinking water that was not clean. I was sick for 7 days and it was nottttt fun!!!!
If you plan on visiting Costa Rica, I highly highly recommend visiting the Arenal Volcano. Another thing to be aware of is the prices. I did not find the prices of anything to be very cheap (food, souvineers, clothes etc.). Not saying these things were overpriced, but I definitely spent more money than I usually like to while traveling.
Regardless of the negatives, this trip was wonderful and I would love to visit this lush green country again!
